She is mostly of British descent, while her father has Irish ancestry and her mother has Swedish ancestry. Her mother was a babysitter and waitress, and her father, a failed actor, worked odd jobs to support the family.
Her maternal grandparents were both actors and the directors of the Reading Repertory Theatre Company.
Personal Life
Winslet met Jim Threapleton on the set of Hideous Kinky, where he was an assistant director, a year after Tredre died. They married in November 1998, and their daughter, Mia Threapleton, was born in 2000.
